“We all need support,” she says. “I used to be an interpreter at the Regional Center, so I can assist other parents. We’ve all been there.”
The plainspoken Shen takes on whatever is necessary for the organization to run smoothly, including keeping the meeting minutes. Her low-key demeanor masks a sharp sense of humor, which she uses to keep FFDY meetings running efficiently.
“Lulu is one of the people who really helps FFDY stay focused,” says Ben Su, a fellow board member. “She’s a major asset.”
She has one son and two daughters, including Alexandra, who has Down syndrome and underwent brain surgery for a tumor. “She’s a healthy and happy girl now,” Shen says. “She’s a great blessing.”
